There are flights from most larger international airports to Crete, although some flights might go over Athens.
If your destination to Crete is East of the Island, you should chose Heraklion Airport for destinations such as:
Heraklion, Hersonissos, Agia Pelagia, Agios Nikolaos, Elounda.
If your destination is to the far west of the Island you should chose Chania Airport, for destinations as:
Chania, Falasarna, Plakias, Frangokastello, Kissamos, Kastelli, Elafonissos Island
In between the 2 airports you have easy access to places such Rethymnon, Episkopi, Giorgoupoli, Panormos, Preveli and so on.
